Aviation Security Solutions

World-class airlines fly millions of passengers across the globe annually, and airports throughout the world support this boom in business and leisure travel brought about by the efficiencies of a global economy.

However, the integrated nature of airlines and airports, combined with the massive flow of daily traffic can present unique safety management and risk prevention challenges.

Furthermore, in order to address the heighten global concerns over terrorism and illegal immigration require a high degree of security awareness and expertise in areas such as secured employee access and wide area surveillance would be of paramount importance.

Aviation Security Solutions

  • Access Control and Integrated Management Platform

The access control solution help airports manage and secure all aspects of their facilities. It can also act as an integration platform for other systems, such as intelligent video, fire and intrusion detection systems. Some special features, such as double or multiple doors interlock, anti-passback, biometrics and offline verification are essential to help secure points such as air-bridges and Air Traffic Control Towers.

  • Video Surveillance System

Intelligent video analytics systems actively seek out potential threats such as unattended baggage or overcrowding and alerts security staff in a pro-active manner.

  • IP Solutions

Utilizing high definition Internet Protocol (IP) video and IP access control systems not only makes installation easier, it also facilitates ease of scalability. Using Megapixel IP cameras to replace low-resolution cameras will maximize the video image quality for greater clarity.

  • Mobile Authentication / Staff Counting capability

The unique CEM portable hand-held reader allows random security checks anywhere in the airport. This mobile device can also be used outdoors in the airport such as on the runway or in the passenger buses.

The ability to know the number of staff at a specific location, at any time, is critical in times of emergencies. Occupancy levels in specific areas in the airport can be set such that you define how many people and/or what type of personnel are allowed in, for example, the control tower.

  • Badging Solution

Airports employs a large number of internal service staff and external retail staff that inevitably poses turn-over challenges. As such, a robust badging solution is critical not only to address the issue of volume and efficiency, but also to ensure quality and security in card encoding.

  • Time Synchronisation Capability

Time is of the essence, especially where flight arrivals and departures are concerned. Our system can keep time synchronised with the external airport facilities and is key to ensuring the smooth operation of all functions of our system from server communications to air traffic control.

  • Perimeter Detection

Using infrared detectors integrated with video cameras will allow video analysis to track suspected intrusions for timely response.

  • Arriving and Departing Passenger Segregation

Many airports need to segregate arriving and departing passengers. This can be achieved by using Interlock (or Lobby) Mode. Two or more readers control doors giving access to the segregation lobby, one for arrivals and the other for departures. The card readers are interlocked so that if one reader is in Passenger Mode (for multiple throughput) then the other can only be put in Interlock Mode (nobody can entry) or Staff Mode (for individual entry) and vice versa.

  • Airbridge Monitoring System

This system provides control over the use of airbridges, ensuring that only authorized and trained personnel can use them. The system displays the status of each airbridge on a graphical display and provides data for advanced reporting, allowing airports to charge airlines accurately for usage and reduce maintenance costs associated with airbridges.

  • Airports Link

Airports that are owned by the same operator can be linked and networked upon request, allowing valid cardholders to go from one airport to another with ease.

  • People and baggage monitoring

People and baggage monitoring is useful for airport management to allocate manpower efficiently against peak / off-peak times.

Using Archway Meter Detectors (AMDs) to monitor the number of people passing through each point, reports on passenger movement patterns can be generated. The X-ray machines can also be used to calculate baggage volume.

Vital Facilities Protected by Tyco Security:

Hong Kong International Airport
Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) is one of the world's busiest international airports. Opened in 1998 after six years of construction costing US$20 billion, HKIA has been ranked the 13th busiest airport worldwide in terms of passenger throughput and the second busiest airport in the world in terms of cargo traffic in 2009. An airport with a passenger throughput and cargo load of this scale naturally requires an equally robust security solution – Tyco Security delivered an integrated airport security management solution customised to address HKIA’s peak hour traffic of 15,000 in prevailing access control.

Shanghai Pudong International Airport
Opened in 1990, Shanghai Pudong International Airport has become one of Asia’s major aviation hubs today. In 2008, the airport was ranked the 3rd busiest airport in the world in terms of freight traffic as well as the 3rd busiest in mainland China. To secure the safety of its rapidly growing traffic, Shanghai Pudong International Airport relies on Tyco Security’s access control system for both its terminal buildings.

Shanghai Hongqiao Integrated Transport Hub
Shanghai Hongqiao Integrated Transport Hub is a massive merger of rail, road and air interchanges. With a daily throughput of nearly 110 million passengers and 64,000 transfers to transit traffic, the transport hub needed a robust solution to safeguard the security of its critical networks. To meet its security needs, Shanghai Hongqiao Integrated Transport Hub has turned to Tyco Security to initiate integration of various access control systems from each of its rail, road and air traffic lines.
